Craig Weise has today announced his resignation from his position as Chief Executive of New Zealand Green Investment Finance (NZGIF) after over four years at the helm.

Mr Weise will end his tenure on 30 September.  The NZGIF Board has appointed an Interim Chief Executive, Chris Day, who will take up the position from 1 July to allow Mr Weise to transition and take a sabbatical until the appointment of a permanent replacement.

Cecilia Tarrant, NZGIF Board Chair, thanked Mr Weise for his dedicated service to the green investment bank.

“Craig has made an immense contribution to NZGIF. He leaves the company well poised for its next phase of growth as it continues to deliver on its mission to invest in Aotearoa New Zealand’s low carbon future,” Ms Tarrant said.

Mr Weise was the founding Chief Executive when NZGIF was established in 2019 with $100m investment capital. NZGIF now has $700m investment capital, making it one of the largest direct investors in the climate space in Aotearoa.

“Under Craig’s leadership, NZGIF has emerged as a market leader in the climate investment space, demonstrating that the role of market actors mobilising capital for climate action is critical,” Ms Tarrant said.

In announcing his decision, Craig thanked his board and team for their contributions to NZGIF’s success.

“It’s been a pleasure to watch NZGIF grow and celebrate our achievements along the way. I have particularly enjoyed seeing our investment thesis play out, both with the breadth of investments we’ve been able to make across diverse sectors as well as the underlying innovation in the investment structures we’ve developed,” he said.

“I’m incredibly proud of our work and what we’ve been able to achieve, and I know that the team is in a great position to continue to deliver on NZGIF’s mission of investing in our low-carbon future and unlocking the huge potential that lies within for the benefit of all New Zealanders.”
