NZGIF wins two awards at World Commerce and Contracting Awards

WCC Awards 2023 PNG

NZGIF's leadership in climate contracting has been recognised with two awards at the 2023 World Commerce and Contracting Innovation and Excellence Awards.

NZGIF won the Delivering Social and Economic Benefit category of the APAC Awards for its work in establishing the New Zealand Climate Clause Bank, a world-leading collaboration with 11 law firms to produce an open-source database of industry-negotiated clauses.

Head of Legal Ian MacKenzie won the Global Personal Initiative Award for leading a series of automation initiatives that have transformed the way that NZGIF identifies and completes its innovative decarbonisation investment transactions, and for spearheading the project to establish the New Zealand Climate Clause Bank.

Now in its 10th year, the World Commerce and Contracting Innovation and Excellence Awards recognise the achievements of the international contracting and commercial management community.

NZGIF was also shortlisted for a third award, Operational Improvement, for its lending documentation automation project.

World Commerce & Contracting Innovation & Excellence Awards 2023 - APAC award categories

Delivering Social and Economic Benefit

Winner: New Zealand Green Investment Finance - The New Zealand Climate Clause Bank

New Zealand Green Investment Finance and 11 of New Zealand's leading national and regional law firms have collaborated to produce an open-source database of industry-negotiated clauses, based on the work of The Chancery Lane Project, designed to embed climate consciousness in all contracts in which they are used – the New Zealand Climate Clause Bank. This is a world-leading collaboration designed to bring climate-aligned contract drafting to the mainstream, through a project that can be the model for legal industry collaboration to address the climate crisis. It allows for the aggregation of many small actions - something crucial if the world is to meet climate targets.

Global Personal Initiative

Winner: Ian MacKenzie, New Zealand Green Investment Finance

As Head of Legal at New Zealand Green Investment Finance, Ian Mackenzie has led a series of automation initiatives that have transformed the way that NZGIF identifies and completes its innovative decarbonisation investment transactions. Moving quickly and nimbly, Ian has developed exceptional automated systems and processes, along the way inspiring the rest of the organisation to automate too. Ian has also led a project, alongside The Chancery Lane Project, to launch the New Zealand Climate Clause Bank. This free resource is helping businesses make small climate-friendly changes that, across the economy, can have a big impact on emissions reductions.
